Louisville Chest and Abdominal Injury Attorneys Serving Jefferson County and Surrounding Counties

The crushing impact of a collision can break ribs or the sternum particularly if a driver or passenger was not wearing a seat belt. On the other hand, wearing a seat belt can cause injury and abrasions to the chest region due to the impact from a crash. This severity of chest injuries has been reduced by the placement of airbags in dashboards and steering wheels, but fractures and injuries to organs still occur. The liver, spleen and kidneys are frequently injured during heavy impact collisions.

The following case summaries are auto accident cases resulting in chest and abdominal injuries we have personally handled and litigated and are provided for illustrative and informational purposes only and are not meant to offer legal advice or intend to take the place of consultation with a qualified attorney that has the requisite expertise and experience in these matters. These cases are only a sampling of the actual cases we have handled. While some cases may be similar, each case involves unique parties and specific facts, and the application of those facts to the controlling law may differ significantly depending upon the circumstances. No results or outcomes can be guaranteed in any case.

Representative Chest and Abdominal Injury Case

Louisville, Kentucky chest and abdominal injury case of Maribeth M.

On November 15, 2010, Maribeth M. was driving into her condominium parking lot located in Louisville, Kentucky. She had to stop her car at the security gate to enter her code into the keypad to allow entrance into the parking lot. After stopping, she then proceeded through to the parking lot at a low speed when another driver forcefully reversed out of her parking space and directly into Maribeth’s vehicle. Due to the negligent driver’s failure to operate her vehicle at an appropriate speed and pay attention to her surroundings, she caused a crash that injured Maribeth. After the recent reconstruction of her breasts from double mastectomies, Maribeth was very concerned about her breasts being impacted by the seatbelt, and she noticed an observable change in the prosthesis. She went back to her plastic surgeon at Norton Hospital where she underwent a repeat surgery on November 30, 2025 which resulted in a new implant on the left side and an adjustment of the flap on the right, with a surgical drain implanted. Due to continued neck, shoulder and back pain, she also sought additional physical therapy treatment. As a result of this collision, Maribeth sustained approximately $40,179.38 in medical expenses. A demand was filed and the case was settled without protracted litigation.
