Greyhound bus wreck sends 21 to local hospitals

The weather outside was icy, and those conditions clearly contributed to the multi-vehicle pile-up at mile marker 71 that occurred this week in Bonnieville on I-65 in Hart County. The wrecks closed all of the interstate's southbound lanes on Tuesday, Jan. 16, at approximately 9:30 a.m.

The spokesperson for the state's Transportation Cabinet District 4 said that first responders from around the area arrived on scene to treat the injured. At least one Greyhound bus and three large commercial trucks were involved.

The spokeswoman for Greyhound Bus Lines stated the bus was traveling to Nashville from Louisville with 24 passengers aboard. Seven passengers on the bus were treated for minor injuries at a local hospital. Uninjured passengers were picked up by another bus and ferried to their destination.

Helicopter video from a local media station pictured lanes of stopped traffic for miles following the wreck.

An updated report indicated that 21 drivers and passengers got hurt. That updated total included 18 riding on the Greyhound.

When you are a guest passenger in a commercial vehicle like a passenger bus and get injured in a collision, you have the right to pursue compensation for your injuries and any damages associated with the auto accident. Medical bills can be substantial even for minor injuries if a trip to an emergency room is involved. If the ER doctor orders diagnostic tests like x-rays, CT scans or MRIs, the bills could be in the low five figures or even higher.

It can be a nightmare to sort out the liability issues in these types of crashes. Often, claimants give up out of frustration or wind up accepting far less than their claims are actually worth. Take the time to learn the true worth of your claim so that you get all the compensation that you deserve.
